Somerset Conservatives are proud to announce an experienced, dedicated and energetic group of candidates that will contest the seats in the Bridgwater and West Somerset Constituency Area in the forthcoming County Council elections.
The Conservatives are standing on a platform of Low Council Tax, High Investment into Somerset and Quality Services. They have already announced ambitious plans for the County which include
- · A New University
- · More housing for local people
- · Moving forward the Huntspill Energy Park Enterprise Zone
- · A barrage across the River Parret to prevent flooding
- · Improvements to our road, rail and digital infrastructures
The Conservative candidates are :
David Hall (Bridgwater East and Bawdrip) an experienced Councillor who has served the Bridgwater East and Bawdrip since 2009. He has been a lead figure in championing economic development and encouraging inward investment to the County. He represents Somerset on the board of the Local Enterprise Partnership.
Richard Brown (North Petherton) is a councillor who makes time to visit all parts of the Division to understand and act upon local issues. Richard has played a key role in promoting the need for effective water management and flood reduction that ultimately lead to the creation of the Somerset Rivers Authority. Richard has also been campaigning to improve broad band connectivity.
Mandy Chilcott (Minehead) is a West Somerset District Councillor who believes that the people of Minehead, Somerset’s gateway to Exmoor, deserve strong and positive representation on the County Council. Mandy is determined to fulfil that role.
Mark Healey (Huntspill) knows that his Division will have a lot of infrastructure changes to come. He has the determination and experience to hold officials to account on behalf of residents. He is immensely proud to be chairman of your Fire Authority
David Huxtable (King Alfred) is Somerset’s most experienced Conservative Councillor David Huxtable is looking forward to the challenge of new campaign. David looks forward to meeting the electors on the doorstep
Pele Barnes (Bridgwater North and Central) is a local man who has lived in Bridgwater all his life. He is committed to giving the Bridgwater North and Central Division a strong voice at County Hall
Lance Duddridge (Bridgwater South) has been a local shopkeeper for many years and more recently a Sedgemoor Councillor. He has a proven track record of helping local residents.
Ann Bown (Bridgwater West) has served residents representing Bridgwater West on Somerset County Council for the last 12 years. She sits on the Devon & Somerset Fire Authority and Chairs the Health & Wellbeing at County Hall.
Richard Lillis (Watchet and Stogursey) believes that his Division has been too long without a strong committed voice at County Hall. He is determined to put matters right.
Mike Caswell (Cannington) is a local Sedgemoor District Councillor. He is honest, hard working and dedicated to representing his electorate well.
Christine Lawrence (Dunster) is deeply passionate about helping and supporting the people of the Dunster Division whenever she can. She has been the County Councillor for many years and the Chairman of the County Council for the last two years. She would love to continue this work as their are always people in need of the help she can provide.
Francis Nicholson (Dulverton and Exmoor) is an experienced Councillor with an incredible commitment to Dulverton and Exmoor. She has served as Cabinet Member for Children and Young People and works tirelessly to promote the best interests of the young people of the County.
Over the last 8 years the Conservatives are proud to have frozen council tax for 6 years, dealt with the crippling Lib Dem £350 million debt and invested more money than ever in our Adults and Children’s Social Services.
The elections are being held on the 4th May 2017
