Somerset has been selected by the government to receive new funding to support educational outcomes in the area.
The funding, part of the Conservative government's levelling up agenda, will be used to help children from all backgrounds fulfil their potential.
Cash will be available to help schools retain their best teachers in the highest priority subjects. And struggling schools could be moved into stronger multi-academy trusts – helping to attract high quality teachers and more support.
Conservative education spokesperson, Cllr Clare Paul, said “It’s great to see the government fulfilling it’s promise to the people, putting more money into communities outside London and the South East.”
“The children here are as talented as anywhere else, and they deserve this new package of support.”
“We’ve made good progress supporting education outcomes here as a County Council, but this new money will make a huge difference. And this shows what we can achieve with a Conservative team working together to deliver here in Somerset and in Westminster.”
